Ojibway Traditions

The Ojibway or Chippewa refer to themselves as Anishinaabe (the People). Their traditional territories surround the Great Lakes region, including parts of Ontario, Quebec, Manitoba and the states of Minnesota, Michigan, North Dakota and Wisconsin. The Ojibway, Odawa and Potawotami comprise the Three Fires Confederacy which is one of the largest linguistic families in North America, Algonquian and its dialects comprising their spoken language. Traditionally, they are hunter-gatherers, known internationally for their wild rice.
