Jesse Rainfeather Goldman has enjoyed a privileged life in the posh Beverly Hills suburbs with his adoptive parents. Suddenly, he must confront his Native American background when his biological mother contacts him for the first time. Jesse travels to her reservation only to discover she has just died under suspicious circumstances in a house fire. While mourning the mother he never knew, Jesse becomes acquainted with his maternal grandfather and a Lakota woman. Supported by his new family, Jesse investigates the corrupt officials who are controlling the reservation and opens himself up to his Lakota culture. Directed by and starring Lou Diamond Phillips.
