The original name of the Omaha people was U-maha meaning "going against the current." They now live along the Missouri River in eastern Nebraska. John Raze was Louis Dick Jr.’s grandfather. He was one of the four men chosen by the Ho-Chunk People to be given the Ho-Chunk Crossfire Peyote Ceremony. This fireplace was passed along to Louis Dick Jr. by his father. He has recorded these songs for all Native people. It is his hope that these songs will be sung with great sincerity and respect. His elders taught him that it is important to understand the meaning of a song before it is sung, especially if it is from another tribe. Drumming is provided by Jerold Francisco.
