Rosebud Sioux, Joseph Marshall was raised in the traditional way when stories were the main form of entertainment and education. The grandmothers and grandfathers were the story tellers. Each story had a theme and a life lesson that were imparted to children in the hopes that the stories would instill values in them that would help them on their journey through life. The tales revolved around love, compassion, honor, humility, perseverance and generosity. The seven stories included on the recording are all taken from Marshall's book, "The Lakota Way." In the background, are musicians Keith Bear, Andrew Vasquez and Joseph Fire Crow each performing pieces that provide a quiet musical backdrop along with the sounds of birds and other natural sounds.
