Mary Louise Defender Wilson (Gourd Woman) is a Dakotah elder born into a family of storytellers. She has earned a National Heritage Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts, the nation's highest honor for a traditional artist. Flute music by Bryan Akipa accompanies many of the stories. Makoche Recording once again gives us an outstanding "enhanced CD" and those that have the capability can pop the CD into their computer and get copious details on the meaning of each story and the significance of the animal 's role in teaching all of us to live better lives.
